My BFF I've Never Met: Marsha Ambroisious

I know, you are tired of hearing about her from me...but I can't help it. I heart this chick. Everytime I hear something or read something about her, it is like, exactly how I would respond. Or what I would do. Or what I would say. I recently fell upon her cute blog Marsha Ambrosius Honestly and was too delighted to know she is also a blogger. Of course being a mega star she isn't able to update it that often, but I was able to go through and read some of her musings and love her voice.

I feel like, if she and I met in real life, we would have so much to talk about. Music, life, weight, hair, men...you name it!

Anyhoo, I'm sure, one day, if the stars align she and I will meet again (remember, we've met before). One day me, her and Amber Rose are all going out for sushi and shit talking. It is like my dream come true.

In My Ears: The Weekend - Thursday

I heart The Weekend. I don't know if the weekend is a group, a man, young, old, black, white, and you know what...I don't care. That is the beautiful thing about music, it transcends aesthetics. It is all about the sound, the rhythm, the words. Not how cute the artist is or how naked the chicks get in the video.

Because of this, The Weekend is the best thing going for me. His/their mysteriousness adds to the intensity of the music. The Weekend just released a new mixtape called Thursday...so perfect in so many ways. Thursday is a juxtaposition of sorts. Its a day that's close to the weekend and makes you get excited, but its not quite the weekend. For some, Thursday is their weekend...its all about perspective.  As is the album.

My favorite cut on it so far is The Zone. I have not been able to give this CD the attention it needs yet, but I did have a listening party during the uneventful Hurricane we had here on Saturday.

In My Ears: Jodeci

Ok, so every girl...who is now in their 30's knows, and LOVES Jodeci! Me and my friends used to sing their songs on the phone when we were in elementary school, and Lawd knows we knew nothing about what they were singing about! How these guys who were only like 18 themselves, sang songs with so much passion and intensity is amazing.

I want to share my favorite song with you guys...I'm Still Waiting. OH M Gee. This song, off their first album is the most underrated celebrated song. I have this on repeat and heavy rotation right now. I have a Pandora station set to Jodeci and when I hear this particular song, it takes me back. Waaayyyy back!

In My Ears: Radio Raheem

Radio Raheem

Well, everyone who knows me personally…and impersonally probably knows I have a serious, serious, serious love for everything Raheem Devaughn. You know Raheem, the R&B, hip hop, neo soul, rockstar. Me and my wifey, Dee used to follow him to EVERY show he had in the DMV. We were like his roadies, lol. His music was exactly what I needed at the time. His passion, his hustle, his talent…was a total breath of fresh air to me and so different from all the mush that was on the radio at that time (circa 2004-2007). As time progressed, and Raheem got more mainstream, I felt like a proud fan. I’ve met him a couple of times and he always seemed so real and humbled by his fans' admiration. I turned on so many folks to this man; even my sister who lived in SC made her local radio store order copies of his CD because they had not heard of him.

I said all that to say…I HEART Raheem.

He recently started a Sunday night (7PM) internet radio show. I have only caught the show 1.5 times but I support it and him. At my day job, we have firewall city up and I cannot get to any of my previous internet radio stations (Pandora, yahoo, youtube) so I tried, just on a whim to see if I could listen to Rah’s radio show from last week. Not only do they have the videos from the previous weeks, but you can listen to blis.fm live streaming. I was able to, ALL day, listen and it is the ONLY radio station so far that will play consistently on my computer and is not blocked. I have listened to everything from Raheem, to Stevie Wonder, to Kool and the Gang (playing right now). It says 202 Studios on the streaming page which I assume is Rah’s studio being he’s from DC.  

And once again, I would like to thank my love, the most wanted baby’s daddy, the R&B, hip hop, neo soul, rock star for saving me musically. You always know what I need. And you always deliver.

Look Ma, No Hands

I just wrote a post about my new favorite rapper, Wale (download and listen to it here). But I found this pix of K to match it. A couple of weeks ago she was in the D at a princess party for her Godsister. In a pix of about 6 lil' girls, only K and J did this...

Her Godmommy is a loose meat sandwich, so I'm not sure what she said to make them do this, or why only K and J were the ones doing it. But its way too cute not to share.

In My Ears: Wale

The radio is funny. Not funny ha ha but funny in a way that its not really transmitting much of anything anymore. Even if an artist is remotely good, the good stuff doesn't make it on the radio. The radio is so divisive, they transmit trash and glamour us with the trash. Now the Internet has taken over as the source for good music. And not satellite/Internet radio. I mean blogs and mixtapes. This is now where we must go to hear the good.

That was a long way to get to whats in my ears right now. Wale - The Mixtape About Nothing. Nothing short of awesome. Pretty much every song on this mixtape is the bomb. The fact that it is set to interludes from the show Seinfeld is so thoughtful and for me, surprising of this artist. Shout out to datpiff for being one of my favorite websites to get music. Wale is from the DMV area where I now live and typically do not like many rappers here. They either put everything to a gogo beat which I'm not a fan of (I know #killmyself) or they over extend the ooohhh in the word two and it blows me. I've heard a few radio tracks from Wale, but nothing that moved me...or made me think about anything. This mixtape really proved him to me...because I know he was spending a lot of time waiting for me to become a fan, lol.

My favorite track is The Trip. Its set to one of my favorite 90's R&B songs. There are many good ones on here, they all could be my favorites...except for No Hands. I'm over it. Let me know what you think.

It's definately get it poppin music and basically a remix (of sorts) of all the songs we probably have on our own sex tape. You know the music...the tape player, record on the quiet storm set, pressing record/pause real quick to get a seamless tape without the DJ interjecting type music.

Weeknd Update

So ya'll know this post I wrote about how I'm loving this new artist The Weekend and I think he is going to be the next best thing. Well...guess whose the next best thing...The Weeknd.

I just heard his song from the mixtape on the trailer for The Entourage's new season! Now that's big. I feel like I did that with my brain.

Where am I?

So, I've been gone for a minute I know. I miss you. I really do. I love writing down my crazy thoughts and have been bottling up so much. I plan to post like 5000 blog post (but probably won't do more than 4). I started a new career, am courting a new business venture, lost more weight, am going through a mini depression, and a myriad of other things which I hope to get to soon.

 

Anyhoo...this is what I've been listening to hard core for like the past...2-3 weeks.

 

And this music is playing in my head on a 24 hour music. Some people call it trance, rave, hip hop, R&B...I call it...AWESOME.

 

The freaking weekend! Who is the weeknd. I don't know. Don't really care to know. The mystery of it all semi turns me on. His music is me. It makes me feel. He seems like he has some ish with him and I relate to that. I feel like I'm on his PR team because I tell everyone I meet about him, but down load asap the-weeknd.com. Best move in your life. All the songs are my favorite. But Coming Down is a symphony to my ears. The passion, the pain, the carelessness, sensuality...I get it all.  Ride with me!

Marshians...

I am not a human...shouts to all my moon men.

This is one of my favorite lines from rapper (I'm whispering...Lil Wayne). I know, I know. I'm all corporate and grown, however, nothing gets me going more on the treadmill than some good randomness from Lil Wayne and a nice cool down from Marsha. Marsha, who has so eloquently named her fans...Marshians. I heart her.

I found out recently she got engaged. Bad move. Not only because I have mixed views on marriage (sorry DH) but because every, every, every awesome neosoul chick who blows gets married and the first album during the court/newlywed is great and then....booooooo. Something bad happens. Marriage ruins their drive, their fire. They get happy, or sad, or complacent and the very next album, if their is a next album is not so good.

I could go on, but I'm not. Marriage in a nutshell does something to you. Maybe these women got happier and couldn't focus on the music so much for focusing on their partners. Or maybe their partners made them crazy. I don't know. Anyhoo...I'm pulling for you Marsha. Please don't become like a for real real Marshian. Don't let this man take everything from you. Or please write and record a bunch of ish prior to the wedding and release it each year like Tupac.

In My Ears: Hope

So...every now and again, you find an artist who touches your soul. During a trip about 4 or 5 years ago, on the Santa Monica peer...this person, found me. Her name is Hope. And during this time, I needed just that. I listened to a few of her songs she strummed on the guitar and immediately upon returning home, looked up her MySpace page (because that was the whole shit of the world in 07').

Anyway...I was pleasantly surprised. Here are my two most favoritist songs by Hope. It was almost a little hard to listen to them because they took me back to that time...an interesting time in my life to say the least.

In My Ears: Jason Mraz

If you know me... you know I fell in love with Jason during my pregnancy. I sang "I'm Yours" to my belly all the time and when Kenny was born, she loved it. It would calm her to sing it and when she found her voice, we started to sing it together.

Today, this song came on my and was perfect for the day. There has been some hardships in my life recently, but songs like this bring me back to reality. As usual...Thank you Jason for your ability to make me smile with your music!

So, of course I've been on a Marsha Ambrosius obsession. I took a break from playing her CD for like 45th time today and listened to Pandora...set to Marsha Ambrosius.

The crazy thing is, since she is new, there were really no Marsha or Floetry songs on there, but a bunch of just awesome music. Music from the 70's, now, and this song.

This song synopsizes everything women want in life. To just be able to be you, and to be loved by someone who loves you. I don't know how this song slipped under my radar because its like 3 years old, but I'm grateful I found it.

Dude...its not that often I'm completely stuck or excited about an artist. I like a lot of folks, a lot of music...but getting excited for an album comes only once in a blue moon. But...I'm feeling this way about this lady, Marsha, Marsha, Marsha.

Me and DH went to Best Buy this weekend to actually pick up the album after he got tired of me trying to stream songs on my BB, lmao. But yeah, it wasn't out yet. I've probably heard every song from this album and her mixtapes already, but when someone moves me, I like to actually go and pick up a CD from them. Show them love and appreciation for their art.

Even humored one of my co-workers who was trying to holler at her and invite her out with us, lol. She just blushed and said she already had a man. When she could've said "Negro, do you know I'm Marsha Ambrosius, the Songstress!".

In my ears: Theophilus London

So Theophilus...

First of all he has an awesome hilarious name. Not sure if it is his real name. There are a few bloggers out there that get into the meat of the human, where they were born, their name, their struggle...yeah not me. I'd rather make up mental stories about the person and let that be it. Who cares whats real right...other than the music.

Theophilus was born Theophilus. People called him Theo. He didn't like it, but blessed me to continue to do so. But what he did like...making great music. I was recently provided some tracks from this dude, that I really like. He's hip hop. And I like hip hop so I like him. Actually he's kinda neo-hop or hip-neo...not sure if that's a category yet, but I'm owning it. One of the tracks feature Jesse Boykins III, a mad arrogant cat who I saw in concert a few months ago. His music with Theo (he lets me call him Theo) is good.

I'm posting a couple youtubes of my favorite songs right now from Theophilus. He was recently in DC and I had totally planned on going to the concert and rocking out with all the other 20 year olds (yes all the other) but my early onset Alzheimer's made me mix up the damn days.
